Adipurush: Ajay Devgn Turned Down Raavan’s Role, Saif Ali Khan Jumped At It, Says, ‘I Find Negative Roles Fun’ – EXCLUSIVE
Instead of the male lead, it seems Tanhaji director Om Raut offered the antagonist’s role in Adipurush to Ajay Devgn. The offer was politely declined by Devgn.
Do we sense another star-director friendship coming to an end? We’re talking about Ajay Devgn and director Om Raut who delivered Tanhaji, the only superhit of 2020. It was only expected that Devgn would feature as the lead in Raut’s follow-up project. But Raut’s next project Adipurush features Prabhas in the lead. Instead of the male lead, it seems Raut offered the antagonist’s role in Adipurush to Devgn. The offer was politely declined by Devgn.
According to sources, Devgn has taken a conscious decision to stay away from negative roles. The antagonist’s role in Adipurush is now being essayed by Saif Ali Khan who played the villain in Om Raut’s Tanhaji as well. Saif says he enjoys playing the antagonist's role. "It's always interesting to dig into the dark side of your personality. I find negative roles fun to do."
Apparently Devgn disagrees. He refused to play Raavan and was more keen to play Rama in Om Raut's adaptation of the Ramayan in Adiprush.
Interestingly, Devgn was offered Rama's role in Raj Kumar Santoshi's proposed adaptation of the Ramayan in 2007.
Like Santoshi's numerous proposed project his Ramayan too never took off. Ajay Devgn was keen to play Rama since the aborted Santoshi project. Alas, Om Raut was committed to Prabhas to play Rama.
